If you have signed your child up for Classic Camp, (or participated in it yourself) you’ve heard of these mysterious things called “Skills”. Every Unit has a chance to try out a variety of skills every week.
What is a skill you ask?
A skill is anything from Archery to Volleyball to Arts & Crafts. We want to give kids a chance to try out new things without signing up for a long term commitment. Maybe you (or your child) has always wanted to try out Lacrosse but is afraid they won’t like it. When they come to camp, if you they talk to their counselor, there is a chance they could learn the basic of Lacrosse for a hour with no strings attached!
Take Volleyball for instance. During a Volleyball skills session, the first half an hour or so would be spent learning how to Bump, Set, Serve and Spike. They would run drills to practice these movements and then spent the next half an hour playing a game.
If your child has experience playing Volleyball, that’s awesome! If your child has no experience playing Volleyball, that’s awesome! Skills are meant to let kids experience new things, or build on old skills. On Sunday, counselors ask campers what skills they would be most interested in trying and then they try there best to do as many of those as possible.
Some of the Skills that are options here at Ligonier Camp are:
Arts & Crafts
We want camp to be a time for kids to come and have fun learning new things. They don’t need to be a Grand Slam winner in order to enjoy Tennis at camp. They just have to be ready, and willing to learn.
Have you done skills at camp before? If so, which is your favorite?
