Six years ago, I worked at Ligonier Camp and Conference Center as a wilderness counselor.
Six years ago, something clicked in my faith.
Six years ago, the leadership team at camp invested time and energy in guiding me towards the man that God has created me to be.
Including that summer six years ago, I working three summers on the wilderness team before God called me to missions work. After two years overseas, God has lead me back to Ligonier and now it's my turn to invest in the summer staff. One passage of the Bible that has always stood out to me is the great commission.
Matthew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
I love that Jesus says “Go and make Disciples!” In order to disciple someone, you have to know them and live life with them. Six years ago, some men took the time to get to know me and invest in me. They discipled me. And now, because of the impact they had in my life, I have been placed in a position to give back to this community and pass along the lessons that God has been teaching me since that first summer. Philippians, is one of my favorite books in the new testament. I love how Paul calls the Philippians to follow his example, to set their minds on things that are good and that Paul modeled for them. After having my life changed by men willing to model what it means to follow Christ, it is now my turn to give back to this wonderful place.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. 9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Phil 4:8-9
